Activity
Aim :
To interpret the factors of a quadratic polynomial of the type x^2 + bx + c using paper grids, strips and slips
Material Required :
Coloured Paper, Geometry Box, Fevistick
Procedure:
Given Equation x^2 + 5x + 6
To represent this we need 1 square tile representing x^2, 5 tiles representing x and 6tiles representing 1.
By spliting the middle term of the equation we get the expression x^2 + 3x + 2x + 6
Place a square tile of dimension 10 x 10 representing x^2
Add 3 tiles of dimension 10 x 1 to any side of the tile x^2 . The area of the new shape formed x^2 + 3x
Add 2 tiles of dimension 10 x 1 to any side of the previous shape obtained in the previous step . The area of the new shape formed x^2 + 3x + 2x
Add 6 tiles of dimension 1 x 1 to any side of the previous shape obtained in the previous step . The area of the new shape formed x^2 + 3x + 2x + 6
Observation
A rectangle is formed whose length and breadth are x+2 and x+3.
Result
The length and breadth of the rectangle so formed represents the factors of the given polynomial.

Group Activity
Aim :
To find the percentage of the students in a group of students who write faster with their left or right hand.
Material Required:
Graph paper, geometry box
Procedure
Take a paper and a pen
Write a letter or a digit for 15 secs with your right hand
Repeat the same activity for same duration with left hand
Record the data.
Take the number of digits / letters written with right hand as x and the number of letter written by left hand as y.
Plot the co-ordinates (x,y) on the graph paper.
From the graph , count the number of points which are above and below the line y = x.
Observation
When x > y, students write faster with right hand.
When x < y, students write faster with left hand.
Result
Total No. Of students = ________
Number of students who write faster with right hand = ____________
Percentage of students who write faster with right hand = __________
